"Dengan adanya jati diri ditambah dengan keimanan dan kefahaman tentang siapa diri kita, dari mana asal usul kita, ke mana kita nak pergi maka silat itu membina satu kekayaan sumber kekuatan diri, menambah keyakinan diri dan memberikan kita peluang sekiranya berlaku sesuatu serangan kepada kita.. kita dengan yakinnya atau dengan siap sedianya menjadi benteng negara," katanya. Menurut Tengku Ahmad, pendekar- pendekar silat seperti Laksamana Hang Tuah, Mat Kilau dan Datuk Bahaman adalah individu yang menjadi benteng utama menentang penjajah suatu ketika dahulu. Ini membuktikan seni silat ini mempunyai peranan yang besar terutamanya dalam pembentukan sesebuah negara bangsa seperti Malaysia. Seni silat Melayu ini juga melambangkan akal budi Melayu yang akan mencerminkan falsafah, pemikiran, emosi dan gaya hidup orang Melayu di rantau Nusantara ini. "Silat berkeris membantu saya memahami diri saya serta asal usul saya. Silat berkeris juga mengajar untuk tidak bertembung dan tidak menyerang walaupun sekiranya apabila waktu- waktunya datang saya akan bersedia, selain itu silat berkeris membantu dan mengingat balik adat dan adab Melayu yang betul," ujar salah seorang pesilat, Tengku Idris Syafi. Pendidikan silat menumpukan kepada pembangunan manusia dari luaran dan dalaman. Ini kerana terdapat pelbagai pendapat yang membahaskan asal usul kewujudan tekpi. Sebahagian daripada pengiat seni bela diri mempercayai bahawa tekpi berasal dari China kemudian tersebar ke Malaysia melalui Kedah semasa perdagangan India, China di utara Malaysia iaitu sempadan Malaysia dan Thailand. Dalam pendapat yang lain mendakwa, tekpi sebenarnya berasal dari Indonesia sebelum tersebar ke Malaysia, India, China , Indochina dan Okinawa iaitu wilayah Jepun yang paling selatan.
